On Saturday, 5 September 2020 at 12pm EST (New York), on the UN International Day of Charity, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will perform a tribute concert to the homeless – in the spirit and call of strengthened global solidarity, focused on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable.  The United Nations recognizes that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.

All proceeds will be directed to Food Bank NYC.  Founded in 1983, Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger by organizing food, information, and support for community survival and dignity. Food Bank has been New York City’s major hunger-relief organization working to end hunger throughout the five boroughs for over 36 years. Nearly one in five—or 1.5 million New Yorkers primarily women and approximately 350,000 children, the working poor, immigrants, the elderly, and people with disabilities—relies on Food Bank for food and other resources.  Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people in New York City turning to the Food Bank’s emergency food network has increased by 50%.  With every $1, Food Bank provides 5 meals to New Yorkers in need.

Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations’ goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.
